But in some cases, the box office depends not only on the quality of the film, professionalism of actors or the amount of intrigue in the plot but also on the effectiveness of the advertising campaign.
Some succeed more than others in earning money in the film industry, while some have exceeded their own expectations many times. And we want to present you a list of the highest-grossing movies in the history of filmmaking according to the theatrical revenues without taking into account any profit from video distribution, TV demonstrations, game creations and other sources.
1. Avatar – $ 2,79 billion
James Cameron’s legendary movie was released in 2009. However, the plot was actually written in the early 90’s, but the shooting began only in 2006. A new language called Na’vi was created especially for “Avatar”. All the actors, who played natives, had to learn it.
“Avatar” was the first movie in the history of cinema to really use the possibilities of 3D, which made it so popular among the viewers. Although a huge role in the success of “Avatar” also played marketing: total $ 250 million has been spent on advertising (just as much as on production).
2. Titanic – $ 2,19 billion
The first movie, which box office exceeded $ 1 billion. And this is also the work of James Cameron. “Titanic” was released in 1997 and immediately became very popular. The story is based on the actual events of a terrible catastrophe, which resulted in the sink of the legendary liner “Titanic”.

The fantastic action movie “Jurassic World” is the fourth part of the “Jurassic Park” series. It was released in 2015 and has taken fourth place in the list of the highest-grossing films in history. In fact, the $ 1 billion mark this movie has reached in just 13 days, which is an absolute record.
The park opens its doors twenty-two years after the tragic events on the Isla Nublar. But populated here dinosaurs again became unsafe for visitors. The main characters are played by Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Nick J. Robinson, Ty Simpkins.
5. The Avengers – $ 1,52 billion
“The Avenges” is one of the most anticipated blockbusters of 2012, which not only met the expectations of the audience but even exceeded them. 6. Furious 7 – $1,51 billion
“Furious 7” is the last movie of an actor Paul Walker, who tragically died, before the end of the shooting. This movie is very successful commercially since its box office exceeded the budget by more than 7 times. The seventh part of the movie franchise also became the highest-grossing film in the history of the Universal Studios.
This time viewers find racers in a hot Arabian desert hunting the “God’s Eye”. Besides Paul Walker, this movie has such great actors as Vin Diesel, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez and Dwayne Johnson.
7. Avengers: Age of Ultron – $ 1,41 billion
Marvel movies are very popular and extremely successful. Their second film, the continuation of “The Avengers” series, has also made it to the list of the highest-grossing films in the world. “Avengers: Age of Ultron” was released in 2015 and earned almost $ 1.5 billion.

10. Iron Man 3 – $1,21 billion
Another movie featuring Robert Downey Jr in the list of the highest-grossing films of all time. “Iron Man 3” is a continuation of the franchise about Marvel’s superhero.
Tony Stark is afraid for the safety of his loved ones and himself. Nightmares and panic attacks constantly haunt him. After he almost lost his beloved Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), Tony blows up all his costumes and throws an electromagnetic reactor out of his chest into the ocean.
